A Chilled Cup of Milk by Moses Adebayo
(A woman who is suffering from a critical illness is being wheeled to the hospital. Two of the Nurses there are talking to one another)
NURSE ONE: I just pray that God will rescue this woman, her people delayed too much in bringing her here. She has to be taken straight to the ICU.
NURSE TWO: Do you know her?
NURSE ONE: No, but she was brought from the village nearby.
(Doctor’s office. The doctor is sitting down, going through some files. A nurse comes in with a patient’s card)
NURSE THREE: (stretching the card to him) Doctor, this is her name and the village that she came from. (He takes the card from her and checks the name as she leaves his office)
DOCTOR: Thank you. (Thinking aloud to himself) I think I know this name in that village. Let me go and check the woman. (He goes to the ICU and observes her, he realizes he knows her. He calls some doctors and they examine her together)
DOCTOR: (in his office) I must do all I can with God’s help to save her life.
(The surgery was successful. She has been brought back to her bed)
NURSE TWO: (talking to another nurse as they walk along the ward) but that woman’s bill is somehow much. How will she even be able to pay that kind of money?
